Description

Puppy Chow Brownies are a deliciously indulgent treat, featuring a rich brownie base topped with creamy peanut butter frosting and crunchy puppy chow. Perfect for gatherings or a cozy evening at home, these brownies combine chocolatey goodness with a hint of nostalgia, making them an irresistible dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Dutch-processed cocoa (or unsweetened cocoa powder)
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder, optional
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/4 cups chopped chocolate, divided
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream, or whole milk
  • 3 cups puppy chow

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, lightly greasing it.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Mix in eggs and vanilla extract until well combined. Stir in flour, cocoa powder, espresso powder (if using), and salt until just combined, then fold in 1 cup of the chopped chocolate.
  3. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan and sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup chopped chocolate over the top. Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, checking early to avoid overbaking. Cool completely in the pan.
  4. For the frosting, beat together peanut butter and softened butter in a stand mixer until smooth. Add powdered sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and heavy cream, beating until fluffy.
  5. Spread the peanut butter frosting evenly over the cooled brownies. Sprinkle puppy chow on top, gently pressing it into the frosting to adhere.
  6. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

Make sure to let the brownies cool fully before frosting for the best texture.
You can customize the toppings by adding chocolate chips or nuts along with the puppy chow.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
