Description

This Mother’s Day Layer Cake is a stunning dessert that’s easy to make and sure to impress. With its colorful layers and creamy frosting, it’s the perfect treat for celebrating moms.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ cups butter (softened)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 ½ tbsp vanilla
  • 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tbsp baking powder
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup butter (softened)
  • 4 cups confectioner's sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 23 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
  2. Spray four 9-inch round cake pans with cooking spray and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla, then beat again to combine.
  5. Mix in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Beat once more until smooth.
  6. Gradually pour in the milk while mixing continuously until the batter is smooth.
  7. Divide the batter equally into four bowls.
  8. Add food coloring gel to each bowl, using different colors for vibrant layers, and mix well.
  9. Transfer each colored batter into the prepared cake pans.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Let the cakes cool for 15 minutes before flipping them out onto parchment paper and cooling completely.
  12. For the frosting, beat the softened butter and confectioner's sugar together until crumbly.
  13. Add the vanilla and 2 tablespoons of milk, mixing until combined.
  14. Adjust with more milk if necessary to reach desired consistency.
  15. Assemble the cake by layering the colored cakes with frosting in between each layer.
  16. Finish by adding a layer of frosting and sprinkles on top.

Notes

Ensure the butter is softened for easier mixing.
Using gel food coloring will give more vibrant colors than liquid coloring.
Let the cakes cool completely before decorating to avoid melting the frosting.
