Description

These Halloween Sugar Cookies (Lofthouse Style!) are a delightful treat made with soft buttery dough and topped with colorful frosting. Ideal for Halloween parties or family gatherings, these cookies combine simple ingredients for a truly irresistible flavor that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • orange & purple & green food coloring
  • halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cornstarch. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  3. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, then stir in the sour cream.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  5. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and chill in the fridge for at least an hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F when ready to bake.
  7. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into circles with a 3-inch cookie cutter.
  8. Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8–9 minutes, just until barely baked for a soft texture.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool completely before frosting.
  10. To make the buttercream, beat the butter until fluffy, then mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  11. Gradually add the milk until reaching a smooth, spreadable consistency, adding more if needed.
  12. Divide the frosting into 3 bowls; dye each with your choice of food coloring.
  13. Frost each cookie with a piping bag or spatula, and decorate with Halloween sprinkles.

Notes

Chilling the dough is essential for achieving the right texture.
Experiment with different food coloring to create fun designs.
Store un-frosted cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
