Description

Crockpot Sloppy Joes are a fantastic choice for a quick dinner, featuring flavorful lean ground beef, mouthwatering sauce, and simple ingredients. Ideal for homemade meals that satisfy everyone!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ cups ketchup
  • 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • Burger buns
  • Pickles
  • Shredded cheddar
  • Coleslaw

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon until fully cooked. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  2. Add the diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Transfer the beef mixture to the slow cooker.
  4. Mix in ketchup, tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, chili powder, kosher salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. Stir until well combined.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours or high for 2 to 3 hours until thick and flavorful.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt, vinegar, or brown sugar as needed. If the mixture is too runny, cook uncovered on high for 15 to 20 minutes to thicken.
  7. Serve the beef mixture on toasted buns with your choice of toppings.

Notes

For added flavor, try using ground turkey or a mixture of meats.
Feel free to adjust the spices according to your taste for more or less heat.
These sloppy joes are great for batch cooking and can be frozen for later use.
