This Beef Burrito features an irresistible blend of flavors with lean ground beef, black beans, and melted cheese, all wrapped up in a soft tortilla. Perfect for a quick dinner or a flavorful meal!

- 1 tablespoon canola oil or neutral cooking oil of choice
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 ½ teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 small yellow or white onion (¼-inch diced)
- 1 (15-ounce) can reduced-sodium black beans, (rinsed and drained)
- 1 cup prepared salsa
- 6 burrito-size flour tortillas (about 10 inches)
- 2 cups (8 ounces) shredded Monterey Jack, sharp cheddar, or Mexican blend cheese
- Sour cream
- Avocado
- Hot sauce
- Chopped fresh cilantro
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Swirl to coat the pan and add the beef, pressing it into a ½-inch thickness. Sizzle for 3-4 minutes until it forms a crust.
- Sprinkle beef with chili powder, oregano, cumin, salt, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Add onions and break meat into small pieces. Cook until the meat is fully cooked, about 4 more minutes.
- Stir in black beans and salsa. Cook until liquid has mostly evaporated, about 1 minute. Adjust seasoning as needed.
- To assemble the burritos, place a tortilla on work surface, adding 3 tablespoons of cheese in the center and topping with ⅙ of the beef/bean mixture. Add another 3 tablespoons of cheese on top.
- Fold in the two opposite sides of the tortilla, then roll it up tightly. Repeat with remaining tortillas.
- Warm a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place a burrito seam side down and brown for 1-2 minutes until golden. Flip and brown the other side. Cool briefly and serve with desired toppings.
Notes
You can customize your burritos with different toppings like guacamole, sour cream, or hot sauce.
