Description

These Apple Turnovers with Puff Pastry are a delightful treat filled with spiced apples, easy to prepare, and perfect for satisfying your sweet cravings any time of day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (2 sheets) Puff Pastry, Thawed
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 3 medium Apples (Peeled, Cored & Diced)
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp Flour
  • 1 Egg + 1 tbsp Water
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1–2 tbsp Milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Thaw the Puff Pastry according to instructions while preparing the apple filling.
  2. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced apples and cook until softened, stirring occasionally.
  3. Lower the heat and mix in the brown sugar and cinnamon. Simmer for 3 minutes until the apples are soft and caramelized. Remove from heat and cool.
  4. Dust a counter lightly with flour. Roll out the first sheet of Puff Pastry into an 11" square, then cut into 4 equal squares. Place the cooled apple mixture on one half of each square, leaving a 1/2" border.
  5. Whisk together egg and water for the egg wash. Lightly brush the edges of the pastry squares to seal, then crimp tightly with a fork.
  6. Repeat with the second sheet of Puff Pastry.
  7. Place the turnovers on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring 1" space between them. Cut small slits in the top of each turnover to prevent leaking.
  8. Brush the tops with egg wash and bake for 20-22 minutes until golden and puffed.
  9. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar and milk and drizzle over the baked turnovers once they cool.

Notes

Ensure Puff Pastry is properly thawed to make folding easier.
Adjust sugar level in the filling according to taste.
Experiment with other fruits like pears or berries for a different twist.
